PURVIEW
Sets out the Government’s national governance approach for safe, trusted and responsible AI in India. Its purview is not limited to a single sector: it addresses AI risk classification and mitigation, accountability, transparency, safety, fairness, human oversight, institutional capacity and practical responsibilities for developers, deployers and regulators. For privacy, it connects AI deployment with privacy, responsible data use, security and accountability, making it a useful umbrella framework for interpreting the Indian AI-regulatory landscape and identifying where sectoral laws, the DPDP regime and cybersecurity requirements attach to an AI system.
Classification and legal status. Non-binding national AI governance guidance; not an Act, Rule or delegated legislation.
