Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022 (Bill C-27) - Canada
The Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022 (Bill C-27) is proposed Canadian legislation intended to modernise Canada’s federal privacy framework by replacing parts of the existing Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) with the Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA). The Bill introduces stronger privacy rights, enhanced organisational obligations, algorithmic transparency requirements, increased enforcement powers, and a new tribunal framework for privacy compliance. It represents a significant proposed reform of Canada’s private-sector privacy regime.
