- Rule 5 - government action concerning telecom identifiers
- core security obligations
PURVIEW
Creates the detailed cybersecurity obligations for telecom entities under the Telecommunications Act. Its purview includes telecom cyber-security governance, incident response, reporting, protection of telecom networks and systems, security testing, information sharing and compliance responsibilities. The Rules are directly relevant to AI because telecom operators increasingly deploy AI in network management, anomaly detection, fraud prevention and customer operations, while AI systems themselves form part of the digital infrastructure that must be secured. For privacy and data protection, the Rules matter because compromise of telecom infrastructure can expose extensive subscriber and communications-related information.
Classification and legal status. Binding subordinate legislation for persons/telecommunication entities within scope.
